Replacement of Driving Licenses in Poland
Currently, in Poland, there are different rules for representatives of different countries regarding the requirements for driving licenses.
Licenses issued in European Union countries are recognized in the Republic of Poland; they do not need to be replaced and are valid until the date specified in them.
Licenses obtained in CIS countries need to be replaced with Polish ones if the foreigner plans to stay in Poland for more than 6 months (185 days). Otherwise, in case of an insurance event with invalid licenses, the insurance company will refuse payment.
Documents for replacement of driving licenses are submitted at the place of registration. To replace, you need to provide:
- completed application form;
- photo 3.5x4.5 cm, taken no later than 6 months before submitting the application;
- document confirming residence in Poland - original and copy;
- international passport - original and copy;
- driving license;
- medical certificate (if necessary, you can undergo a medical examination in Poland);
- receipt for payment of state duty.
After submitting the complete document package, a certificate is issued, which must be carried until the updated document is obtained. License replacement takes from 14 to 30 days. However, this period is often extended.
Old licenses are withdrawn because, according to Polish law, one person is not allowed to have more than one driving license.
Ukrainians with temporary protection status PESEL UKR may not exchange their Ukrainian driving license. However, upon expiration of the temporary protection status, they are obliged to replace Ukrainian licenses with Polish ones within 6 months.
