Проте його можна продовжити у разі необхідності, якщо існують об'єктивні причини, що перешкоджають поверненню особи в країну походження. Для продовження статусу тимчасового захисту необхідно подати заяву до відповідного органу міграційної служби та надати всю необхідну документацію.
