How to obtain unemployed status in Poland?
Have you lost your job or are you temporarily unemployed? In Poland, you can register as unemployed at the County Labor Office (Powiatowy Urząd Pracy), which gives you access to state support: financial assistance, subsidies, vocational training, and internships.
Who can register:
- people with legal residence (passport, residence card, PESEL),
- those who are temporarily without official employment,
- anyone who is ready to start looking for work, retrain, or undergo an internship.
A lawyer can help you:
- check your eligibility for registration,
- prepare a complete set of documents,
- accompany you when submitting your application online or in person.
Conditions for receiving unemployment benefits in Poland
Payments are only available to those who have a confirmed work history in Poland — at least 365 days within the last 18 months. It is important that insurance contributions to ZUS were paid during this period.
Amount of assistance in 2025:
the first 90 days — 1 604,27 PLN (gross) per month,
after that — 1 258,47 PLN (gross) per month.
Duration of receipt:
180 or 365 days (depending on age, situation in the region, family status).
A lawyer checks whether you meet the conditions, prepares the application, and monitors the status of the application at the Urząd Pracy.
Internships and training for the unemployed
Officially registered unemployed persons can participate in:
- paid internships lasting 6–12 months,
- professional courses (e.g., IT, accounting, logistics),
- retraining programs with certification.
During the internship, you can receive a stipend, and travel or accommodation expenses are often covered.
Legal support includes:
- selection of relevant programs,
- preparation of documents,
- communication with the employment service.
Documents required to obtain unemployed status
To register, you will need:
- identity document (passport, residence card),
- PESEL number,
- certificates from previous places of employment or an extract from ZUS,
