Replacing the driver's license with a Polish one
Can a Ukrainian drive a car on the territory of Poland on the basis of a Ukrainian driver's license?
Ukrainians can drive on Polish roads with a Ukrainian driver's license. This is possible thanks to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic signed between Ukraine and Poland.
However, if you are in Poland legally for more than 185 days a year, you are given six months to replace Ukrainian rights with Polish ones according to the established procedure.
An exception to this rule are Ukrainians who received temporary protection status in Poland (PESEL UKR). They can use Ukrainian driver's licenses without the need to exchange them for Polish ones. The term of such a benefit is limited and periodically reviewed by the Polish government.
Replacement of driver's license in Poland. Procedure
1. Collection of documents.
You need to collect all the necessary documents, including your Ukrainian driver's license, a translation of the driver's license into Polish, prepared or certified by a sworn translator or the relevant consul of the Republic of Poland, proof of payment for the exchange of driving licenses (100 PLN), proof of payment of the registration fee (0.50 zlotys), a photocopy of documents confirming the right to reside in Poland (residence card, visa), a copy of documents confirming a stay in Poland for more than 185 days (for example, a housing rental agreement, an employment contract), one photo 3.5*4.5 cm ., write a corresponding application with a request to replace the driver's license, as well as present the original driver's license and a document confirming the right of residence in Poland.
2. Selection of uzund (Urząd Miasta - Wydział Uprawnień Komunikacyjnych) and registration of attendance.
Select the appropriate route and register your visit.
3. Submission of application with relevant attachments.
Submit all the collected documents to change the rights to Polish.
4. Checking the availability of new rights and obtaining them
So, you need to have the following set of documents:
1. The original and a copy of the driver's license, as well as a translation of this license made by a sworn translator.
2. Original and copy of foreign passport.
3. Original and copy of karta bobytu, PESEL UKR or long-term visa.
4. Meldunek (residence registration document).
5. Confirmation of the authenticity of the driver's license (can be obtained from the consulate), or you must wait for a response from the consulate of Ukraine to Uzhund's request.
6. Receipt of payment for the replacement of a driver's license (currently PLN 100).
7. One photo measuring 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
8. A document confirming your stay in Poland during the last 6 months (e.g. rental agreement, employment contract, etc.).
