Nostrification is a process of recognition of foreign educational documents, which is quite expensive in Poland, especially for forced migrants from Ukraine. Among the many Ukrainians who moved to Poland because of the war, a significant part has a higher education and tries to use it to find a job.

Nostrification in Poland

Since the first days of the war, Poland has been actively supporting Ukrainians in employment. To date, almost 270,000 Ukrainian citizens have found work in Poland thanks to the simplified procedure. The Polish government is also committed to helping Ukrainians better integrate into the local labor market, allowing them to work in highly skilled industries such as health care, education and construction.

Question

Are there any reliefs in this procedure for Ukrainians?

Respond

To facilitate the employment and adaptation of Ukrainians, the Polish government provided the opportunity to nostrify Ukrainian diplomas at Polish universities free of charge. This makes it possible to recognize foreign diplomas as equivalent to the corresponding Polish diplomas and professional titles.

Documents for confirmation of a Ukrainian diploma in Poland

If you plan to nostrify your diploma, you must submit an application and the following documents:

  • a diploma of graduation from a higher educational institution;
  • documents indicating the educational course;
  • a certificate or other document that was the basis for admission to a university.

Documents can be submitted in the form of copies with a standard translation into Polish. However, in some cases, the university may require a translation made by a sworn translator or certified by the consul of the Republic of Poland.

The cost of confirming a diploma in Poland

The maximum fee charged by universities for the procedure of recognition or confirmation of studies at a certain level is PLN 3,205. To facilitate the employment of Ukrainians, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy of Poland decided to finance the nostrification of diplomas at Polish universities.

Financial support is provided to Ukrainians who are registered in Polish employment centers and have the status of unemployed or are looking for work. To receive this support, you need to apply at the county employment center or online through the praca.gov.pl system. In the application, it is necessary to specify:

  1. first and last name, PESEL number, identity document number, and residential address;
  2. the name and address of the university that will nostrify the diploma;
  3. the amount of the fee (the amount of payment for reimbursement);
  4. the country of issue of the diploma;
  5. justification of the need for this assistance.

After a positive review of the application, the headmaster concludes an agreement with the applicant on the financing of the diploma nostrification process.

Question

What is the algorithm for confirming a diploma in Poland

Respond

To recognize a diploma in Poland, you must first submit an application to the ministry, and then submit documents for nostrification at the university. In the nostrification process, the higher education institution compares the curriculum, results, obtained rights and duration of study. In case of discrepancies, additional exams or internships may be required.

Confirmation in the Ministry

At the first stage, it is necessary to contact the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland and provide the following documents:

  • application for diploma recognition;
  • the original and a copy of the diploma with attachments;
  • translation of the diploma and annexes, certified by a consul or a sworn translator.

It is advisable to send the documents by registered mail to the following address:

Department Wspórparcy Międzynarodowej Ministerstwo Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego ul. Wspólna 1/3 00-529 Warszawa.

You can also use the ePUAP service. The commission of the ministry reviews the documents within three weeks. If the check is successful, the applicant will receive a certificate. The service is free.

  Nostrification of the diploma through the university

Polish universities carry out the nostrification procedure for diplomas. The choice of university depends on the suitability of the specialty received in Ukraine. The following documents must be submitted to the university:

  • application for nostrification;
  • certificate from the Ministry of Science of Poland on the need to confirm the diploma;
  • diploma and attachments (original, copies, translation);
  • certificate or certificate of admission to a university in Ukraine (original and certified translation);
  • autobiography in Polish;
  • statement that the diploma has not yet been nostrified in Poland.

In general, this is the entire list that you will need.

Question

What is the deadline for confirming a diploma in Poland?

Respond

The commission considers the application within 90 days. In case of a positive decision, the applicant receives a certificate equivalent to a Polish diploma. Sometimes additional courses or internships may be recommended. If documents require additional translation or passing exams, this deadline can be extended. In case of refusal, you can appeal to the rector.

Who does not need nostrification?

Nostrification is not required in the following cases:

  • the bachelor's degree was obtained in Ukraine, and the master's degree is planned in Poland;
  • the applicant plans to enter postgraduate studies in Poland in a targeted direction.

In all other cases, Ukrainian educational documents require a nostrification procedure.

How a lawyer can help in the case of nostrification of a document

  • A lawyer can provide significant assistance in the document nostrification process, helping to avoid possible mistakes and speed up the procedure. Here are some key areas where professional legal support can be helpful:

Consultation regarding documents: A lawyer can help in the collection and preparation of the necessary documents required for nostrification. This includes checking the correctness of the translation of documents, their legal compliance with the requirements of Polish legislation and avoiding possible errors.

Interaction with institutions: The lawyer can act as an intermediary between the client and Polish educational institutions or state institutions. He can help with the preparation and submission of documents and ensure that all formalities are followed.

Legal support in case of refusal: In the event of a negative nostrification decision, a lawyer can prepare an appeal or complaint, providing support in the process of challenging the decision. This may include the preparation of additional documents or representation of the client's interests before the relevant authorities.

Advising on the specifics of the legislation: The lawyer can explain the specifics of the Polish legislation governing the nostrification procedure and help the client understand what requirements need to be met in order to get a positive result.

What does the price of services of an attorney depend on?okata in the matter of nostrification

The cost of a lawyer's services in the case of document nostrification may vary depending on several factors. Here are the main ones:

  • Complexity: If the nostrification process is fairly straightforward, the cost of services will be lower. However, if the case requires additional steps, such as preparing an appeal or interacting with several agencies, the cost can increase.
  • Number of documents required: The cost also depends on the number of documents to be prepared and verified. A larger number of documents and requirements for their preparation can increase the amount of work of the lawyer, which affects the final price.
  • Time costs: The longer it takes to process the case, the higher the cost of the services will be. For example, if the case requires long-term follow-up or complex legal advice, this will affect the overall price.
  • Level of experience of the lawyer: The cost of services also depends on the experience and qualifications of the lawyer. More experienced lawyers with high reputations may charge higher fees for their services.

By the way, if the case requires an urgent solution, the cost of services may be increased due to the need for accelerated work on documents and interaction with institutions.
