From July 2024, Ukrainians residing in Poland will be able to apply for three important types of social assistance. These new forms of support are aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. 1. One-time Assistance "Good Start"
A one-time payment of 300 zlotys is intended to support parents in preparing children for the school year. From July 1, parents, guardians, foster families, and heads of orphanages can apply through the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS).
Who can receive assistance:
- parents, guardians, foster families, heads of orphanages.
The payment is intended for:
- children up to 20 years old who attend school, or up to 24 years old if the child has a disability.
Payment is not provided to children attending kindergartens or preschool groups.
Applications can be submitted through the mZUS application, the ZUS electronic services platform (PUE), the Emp@tia portal, and online banking.
The deadline for submission is November 30, 2024, but for timely receipt of funds – for school preparation – it is recommended to apply by the end of August.
2. Family Assistance and Additional Payments
Family assistance is calculated for the preferential period from November 1 to October 31 of the following year. Applications can be submitted from July 1 online through the Emp@tia portal or from August 1 in paper form.
Who can receive assistance:
- Families that meet the income criterion: 674 zlotys per person or 764 zlotys if there is a child with a disability in the family.
Payment amounts:
- 95 zlotys per child up to 5 years old.
- 124 zlotys per child from 5 to 18 years old.
- 135 zlotys per child from 18 to 24 years old.
For continuous payments, applications should be submitted by the end of August 2024.
3. Assistance from the Alimony Fund
This financial assistance is provided to those who are entitled to alimony but cannot receive it due to problematic or impossible collection. Like family assistance, it is provided for the period from October 1 to September 30 of the following year. Applications are accepted from July 1 online through the Emp@tia portal or from August 1 in paper form. The application must include a certificate confirming the unsuccessful collection of alimony.
The assistance is intended for:
- children up to 18 years old, or up to 25 years old if they attend high school or university;
- children with a significant degree of disability, who can receive assistance indefinitely.
The maximum amount of assistance is 500 zlotys per month. The income criterion for receiving this assistance is 1,209 zlotys per person in the family.
